Some Info About Me:
Born in France to a multi-cultural family and raised in Montreal from the age of seven to 14, Paloma Vita (born Caroline Voillot) was exposed to linguistic and cultural variances from an early age. She attended private French schools while in Quebec, first at the Collège Français and then at Marie de France where the classic curriculum quickly developed her taste for grammar, dictations, parsing, and languages.
Her first attempts at translation were at the age of 14, when back in France, she felt compelled to understand the lyrics of her favourite bands and musicians such as Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, Neil Young, Janis Joplin, and Genesis; equipped with a dictionary, she spent many afternoons poring over lyrics and translating them. She was hooked. Paloma then returned to Montreal and developed a strong bilingual group of friends. Inspired by the many stories she heard about the West Coast, she relocated there with her young son when she was 20 years old and became a full-time anglophile; this is when she unofficially changed her name to Paloma Vita because her French birth name was seldom properly pronounced by the people around her. After many happy years as a single mother, she went back to University when her son left home and focused on English Literature, Writing and Translation. She has memorized 14 Shakespeare Sonnets just because she liked them and has developed a three crossword a day habit, a tool she had first used to better her English skills. Her strong work ethic and love of perfection add to her superb language and organizational skills. There are few things she likes better than delivering high quality work and satisfying her clients. Paloma now lives on the West Coast of British Columbia where she dreams of translating poetry and plays, which are her favourite projects as these media mix written and oral aspects of language.
